Our Work

Zakat is an essential part of our faith. MAC provided a venue through its centers and electronic platforms to enable community members to fulfill this obligation. In order to expand this, a dedicated institution is being established to enable the fulfillment of the potential of Zakat.

Zakat activities fall into two broad and distinct streams: collecting funds and then distributing these funds.

From the Fiqhi perspective, the rules around calculating the amount due are well defined. However, because of the complex wealth management situations can arise when a more thorough analysis and scholarly guidance is required.

Our work focuses on three areas:

1 - Facilitate Zakat payment removing any barriers to fulfilling this important obligation.
Provide tools to:

  • Help calculate the proper Zakat on wealth?
  • Provide educational resources that help any Muslim seeking knowledge about matters related to Zakat such as Nisab, Zatakable Wealth forms, … etc.
  • This learning will be formalized by offering eLearning courses and accessible educational tools to community members.
  • Ask-a-Scholar option will also be available for case by case basis for community members with specific Zakat-related inquiries.
  • Facilitate making the payment from in-person payment in our locations to online platforms.
    • For Zakat Al-Fitr, the amount will be updated at the beginning of each Ramadan.
    • For Zakat Al-Mal. Options will be provided for payments.
    • For people seeking specific fatwas in their specific circumstances, an option to consult with a scholar will be available.

2 - The second stream is the distribution of collected funds. Relying on the advice of the Scholars Committee, funds will be allocated to the priorities identified in each fiscal year.

3 - Applications for emergency relief will be handled through the MAC centers. We will work with our partners to deliver on our priorities
